Bishop Pabillo ushers in Simbang Gabi, blesses the Belen

The simbang gabi at Manila Cathedral-Basilica (MCB) was ushered in by Bishop Broderick Pabillo, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Manila and Bishop in-charge of the Pastoral and Social Concerns of the Archdiocese of Manila.

“Simbang gabi,” one of the most popular traditions among Filipinos, is the novena of early morning masses as a preparation for the celebration of Christmas.

MERALCO Manila Sector (MMS) joined the first simbang gabi at MCB as sponsor. After completing their Christmas decoration of the outside portion of the Cathedral, they decided to join in the first day of simbang gabi as the culmination of their outreach program at the MCB. They were the offerors during the presentation of gifts and their very own choir, the MERALCO Chorale, led the congregation in singing during the mass.

After the first simbang gabi mass, Bishop Pabillo blessed the Belen at the right wing façade when facing the Cathedral. The said Belen was put up for the Cathedral by MMS as a part of their Christmas outreach program.
