BIR Manila Region

This month of June, Manila Revenue Region of the Bureau of Internal Revenue is given once again the distinct honor of sponsoring the noontime Masses of the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica (MMCB). This is a welcome avenue for the expression of our joyous thanksgiving to the Almighty who has given us the strength and courage in carrying out our duties as public servants, especially in a bureau that is least spared from the pervasive public spite fatal to our collective image.

The Manila Revenue Region and the MMCB’s active alliance started as early as July 19, 1982 during the blessing of the Regional building officiated by Msgr. Augusto Pedrosa, who was then the Rector of the Cathedral. Such link became even stronger through the passage of time and has been made concrete by the Region’s sponsorship of MMCB noon Masses beginning 1986. The country was then euphoric over the regained freedom from dictatorship, a phenomenal triumph made possible by the significant role of the then Manila Archbishop Jaime L. Cardinal Sin. His Eminence’s campaign for moral truth and active social responsibility was strongly supported by BIR, which instituted its own moral recovery program.

The incumbent Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales’ “Pondo ng Pinoy” project, a pro-poor and charity-directed initiative, runs parallel to the efforts of the Bureau to collect taxes, because every single peso of tax collected will make a difference in the life of at least one Filipino in terms of the government’s provision of better basic services.

The officials and employees of the Manila Revenue Region under the leadership of Regional Director Alfredo Misajon and Assistant Director Alfredo V.G. Garcia extend grateful appreciation to Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo, Rector of the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica, for his asiduous initiative in involving the Region in the Church’s various social and religious activities.
