Bishop urges people to speak up

Appearing before a throng of churchgoers, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo hit the nail right on the head when he decried public’s cynicism at these “trying times.”

Pabillo presided a solemn Palm Sunday celebration at the Manila Cathedral on March 16, which marked the opening celebrations of Holy Week, leading up to Easter.

In his homily after the blessing of palms outside the church, the bishop stressed public attitudes do play a part why corruption thrives in the country.

The prelate admitted, the Church is facing a big problem- how to keep the flock from another tide, that of cynicism.

His response is prayer without which there “is no meaning to life.”

Pabillo then urged the people to “stand up and speak up” if they want genuine reform not just in the government but also in the society as a whole.

“Let your voices be heard,” he said as the people bearing palms, candles and rosaries listened on.

Pabillo urged the public not to suffer in “silence” and stressed that if people will not act, the country will be taken down to an ugly path.

“Let usask strength from God as we face these challenges,” he said.
