Pope praises Cardinal Rosales Pope Benedict XVI lauded Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales for his “pastoral zeal” and “commitment to Church” in his 50 years of priesthood. The Holy Father relayed his appreciation in a letter read by Papal Nuncio Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams at the Chrism Mass in the Manila Cathedral March 20. Rosales marked his 50th year as a priest on Easter Sunday, March 23. He has been a bishop for 33 years and cardinal for three years. Adams, reading the Pope’s letter, said the Pope “admires” Rosales for his ministerial zeal and contribution to the Catholic Church, in Manila, the country and world as a whole. He said the “ministerial work” that Rosales does shows his indomitable spirit of apostolic enthusiasm in the Church and the Pope thanks Rosales for his work as a shepherd and leader. On a personal note, Adams said Rosales’ work in different parts of the country is a sign of Catholic unity. As an archbishop, Adams said, Rosales has always had an open heart, giving himself entirely to his flock with enthusiasm and generosity. “We can say that the heart of Cardinal Rosales has loved God and you the faithful entrusted to him. His thoughts have been of God and you. His time has been for God and for you. We want to thank him today,” he said. |
